Interserve is one of the world’s foremost support services and construction companies, operating in the public and private sectors in the UK and internationally.
In 2011, Interserve created a justice team, recruiting a group of people from probation, prison and operational backgrounds with a passion for rehabilitation. Over the next two years, the team developed an approach to rehabilitation and prevention which has culminated in our Transforming Rehabilitation service design.
Using a desistance-based approach which focuses on using the sentence to rehabilitate as well as deliver the punishment determined by the courts, we have built on a strong Theory of Change which has been independently and positively evaluated by a number of practitioners and academics.
We became very interested in the way in which the voluntary sector approached service delivery. We saw much innovation and pragmatism in their approach, and decided that to have a really effective service, we would need to learn from and work with the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector (VCSE) sector.
We have spent more than a year working with a wide ranging group of partners of all sizes in the voluntary sector, including our national partners in Purple Futures, 3SC, P3 and Shelter.
It was a result of this that we developed and launched our Charity Charter in early 2014 which lays out how we do business with the VCSE sector and what they should expect from us.
Interserve operates in the public and private sectors in the UK and internationally. We deliver front line public services such as the Work Programme and end of life and critical care services for public sector clients, among many others.
We practise what we preach – Interserve employs more than 2,500 ex-offenders in its UK work force, and was a founder member of the ‘Ban the Box’ campaign which ensures that ex-offenders are not discriminated against in our recruitment processes.
Our design, construction, equipment and facilities management divisions deliver a wide range of services to both the public and private sectors.
We are based in the UK and we are listed in the FTSE index. We have gross revenue of £3.4 billion and have a workforce of over 80,000 people worldwide.
